Formula
I had so much guilt over my failure to breastfeed, I got this other stuff:
Distilled Water (vs specialty “Nursery Water”)
Ready-to-Use: Expensive, but convenient- especially for travel.
Liquid Concentrate: Less expensive. Dilute with water.
Powder: Most economical option. Comes in several options.
Cow’s milk: Most common.
Soy-based: Vegetarian option, or for lactose intolerances.
“Sensitive” hypoallergenic: Babies with intolerances/allergies. Proteins are broken down for easier digestion.
Specialized: Designed for premature babies.
Consult with your doctor if your baby needs special formula.
Powder formula directions usually ask for the scoop to be level and unpacked. After reading about the dangers of imprecisely preparing formula (seizures, coma, brain damage, possibly death!), I found a forum that clarified this directive. The answer supplied by a mom, of course.
An Unpacked Level Scoop...Solved!
Scoop the powder
Do not tap it against the container (this would result in a packed scoop)
Level off with a flat edge of whatever
Whew! One less thing to worry about.
